Toby Smith was previously Liberty Mutual’s chief underwriting officer of North America specialty lines.
Toby Smith (pictured) joins Mosaic Insurance as the insurer’s Americas CEO, effective 23 July.
Based in New York, Smith becomes a member of the specialty insurer’s leadership team, with responsibility for market engagement and profitable growth across the US, Canada, and the wider Americas region.
This includes transactional liability, cyber, and environmental liability, the largest three divisions at the insurance company, which launched in 2021.
Smith has more than 20 years’ experience in the specialty insurance industry, most recently as chief underwriting officer of North America specialty lines at Liberty Mutual.
He previously worked with Mosaic’s leadership at Ironshore from 2009, launching its environmental business, holding roles including president of environmental and president of excess and surplus lines casualty.
He began his insurance career at AIG, where he managed a team in its environmental claims and coverage unit.
